COVERS
Covers are what grab people’s attention when they see a book from across the room. Sometimes it is a powerful image, sometimes they are used to tell you what is happening in the book. Issue One of The Edge had quote a few covers. Each of them has a story.
The very first cover of The Edge going back to 2008. Quite a few things changed over the years. We decided to drop Bolt having blue hair, and gave Interim less of a tan. Spin-off’s hair became darker. This gives a pretty good idea of the team, yet really does not say what the book is about. I think that is kind of hard with an issue one cover. Are you trying to tell a story, or are you trying to get someone to take a second glance.
This is what I call figuring things out. We know what the story is, now we are adding personality to the characters. Adding Tandra and Tartabull to the cover, give the idea that they are watching over the team.
Very similar to the previous cover, yet showing off some of the powers. With Tandra and Tartabull looking out.
Battling Revenant, this one starts to blend in a bit to much. Still a fun cover though.
Blain, Interim, and Mystic step out as the trinity of The Edge.
Moving forward, this was one we brought back from the brink. It was used with a previously publisher and will be used for the Kickstarter Volume One trade. I really liked this and did not want it to fade away.
This was a special sliver foil variant in the original Kickstater.
The Diamond cover. This cover was what launched The Edge and Comicsburgh into Comic Book shops through Diamond
The comic shop variant.
The last dance, the final cover for The Edge issue one. Eventually we had to stop doing covers for issue one, and shift more towards the trade. Reorders and convention appearances will be this cover from now on, unless one of the other covers in circulation is requested.
Well that is it a journey in covers from 2008 to 2024.
I want to thank Mark for drawing all these and the various others who helped bring them to life. Next up issue two.
This is wonderful. You are so right.
